Pawprints In The Garden

My darling lives in a world
that is not mine
An old child misunderstood...
out of time
Timeless is the creature
who is wise
And timeless is the prisoner
in disguise

Oh who is the beauty...
who is the beast
Would you die of grieving
when I leave
Two children too blind to see
I would fall in your shadow...
I believe

My love is a man
who's not been tamed
Oh...my love lives in a world
of false pleasure and pain
We come from difference worlds...
we are the same (my love)
I never doubted your beauty...
I've changed

-Stevie Nicks, "Beauty and the Beast"

And when I call
Will you walk gently
Thru my shadow
The ones you dream of
The ones who walk away
With their capes
Pulled around them tight
Cryin' for the night
Cry for the nightbird
-Stevie Nicks, "Nightbird"

A New Life

Tonight is my first class to begin a graduate degree. I am excited. I know this will probably change as I get bogged down with homework and subjects that are less than interesting to me, but right now, I'm excited. I have made the decision to pursue a new direction. I have also made the decision to get out of the rut that has been my life for the last 7 years. I look forward to being stretched, to learn new material, to meet new people, and to have new possibilities open before me.

Spring Has Sprung

My yard is full of blossoms. Only two weeks ago it snowed. But after one week of summer-like weather, there has been a rebirth. My cherry tree is beginning to drop petals. The pear is in full bloom. Soon the dogwood and flowering crab will join them. As will the rhododendrons. The phlox is a purple carpet and the daffodils are starting to open. Lilacs will scent the air and the trees are now green. Forgive my gushing, but after six months of winter, I'm more than ready for this. I thank the retired couple who lived here before me for planting so many wonderful trees, shrubs and flowers. It's a delight.

Hey, Hey, Hockeytown

Today I'm going to give a nod to another favorite fandom of mine, hockey. In particular, Detroit Red Wings Hockey. Today starts the road to the Stanley Cup, the toughest trophy in sports. The Red Wings have the best record in hockey, but without the Cup, they will consider this year a waste. So, tonight they line up against the Vancouver Canucks (hello, Sara) and I'll be watching. GO WINGS!!!

Various Sundry Stuff

Since I last blogged the following happenings happened:

One of my best friends visited me for the weekend. Since I see her only once or twice a year this is always a treat and this time was no different. Lots of laughter and catching up, though I think we quit trying to solve the problems of the world a few years back. The world didn't want our solutions. ;-)

I signed up for grad school. I start April 25. Ack!!

Spring has finally arrived! 10 days ago it was snowing, today it's 80. My cherry tree should be in bloom soon...and flowers...and green leaves.

I started writing my first story.

ESTJ, ISFJ, INTP etc.

I was surfing through blogs and came to a site on xanga owned by bjorn I took his Myers-Briggs test and found out that I am an INFP. What I really thought was interesting about this were the fictious characters listed at the bottom of the page. Calvin and Deanna Troi among others. I took this test several years ago and scored INFP then, so I guess that's what I am. I am fascinated by personality and why people do what they do, what motivates them and how they tick. Go figure.

Trek Stuff

I've been a J/C 'shipper for quite a while, but I'm beginning to re-evaluate my position. A comment that Seema made in her blog about a week ago has made the wheels turn and today, as I made a 200 mile sales trip, I got to putting together bits and pieces of information. TPTB gave us Riker/Troi & Kira/Odo & Tom/B'Elana, so why not J/C? I heard a rumor that when "Future's End" was filmed that Mulgrew/Beltran were "very, very close". Did Kate Mulgrew experience first hand what having an affair with a co-worker does to the group dynamic when things don't work out? She has been very vocal at cons about being against J/C. It also seems that KM's and RB's personal work ethics were quite different, which could definately affect attitudes and harmony on the set. I think KM had a big influence on why J/C was never given to us in canon. She simply did not want it and I personally think it had less to do with ethics, than with personal preference. In the beginning she may have been OK with having love scenes with Beltran, but later on she lost respect for him and did not want that intimacy - on or off camera. I believe she may have even wanted C/7. So what does the future hold for Kathryn Janeway? I think if KM has anything to say about it, there will be no J/C future.
